            ARRIVAL          RELOCATION
GETTING HERE

The nearest major airport to Eielson Air Force Base is Fairbanks International Airport which is located about 30 miles from the base. There are no shuttles or buses to the base, but rental car facilities are available. Please note that rental car charges will not be reimbursed upon arrival at Eielson Air Force Base. There are taxi services in Fairbanks, and an arriving airman may be able arrange a ride with or through a sponsor.

If arriving by car from the airport, proceed down Airport Way to the A4W / Richardson Expressway (which becomes the Richardson Highway and State Route 2) and keep right. You will pass through North Pole (wave to Santa).

If arriving to Eielson AFB cross country by car, you have either travelled from Anchorage or from the continental US through Canada. From Anchorage, take SR-3 to Fairbanks and SR-2 south to base. From CONUS take the Alaska Highway, which in the Canadian Province of British Columbia is Route 1, into Alaska and proceed north toward Fairbanks, past Fort Greely; Eielson AFB is southeast of Fairbanks.

Caution - The roads in Alaska and northern Canada are very long, and drivers should fill fuel tanks at every opportunity, and be prepared for basic roadside repairs. US citizens should have a passport to re-enter the USA; military ID will not be sufficient. Also, be ready to eat and rest on the road.
