The American Red Cross assists military members and their families during emergencies and provides a variety of service programs and volunteer opportunities to the base community. Fairbanks’ primary Red Cross is the Tanana Valley Chapter, located at 626 2nd St., Fairbanks. The Fairbanks Red Cross office can be reached at (907) 456-5937. The Eielson sub-station, located in Bldg. 2627, is where preparedness and volunteer training in disaster assistance are provided at no cost. It can be reached at (907) 377-1855. In the event of an emergency, such as illness or death in the immediate family of the service member or spouse, call the Red Cross at once. The Red Cross worldwide communications network can verify the situation and provide information to military authorities for planning emergency leave.

Financial assistance, counseling, information and referral services also are available. Red Cross assistance is confidential. The Red Cross coordinates and trains adults and youths as volunteers who support numerous base offices and activities such as the clinic, legal office, and library.

Health and safety education courses, such as first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and childbirth preparation are offered on base. Instructor training is available in these courses.
